A Magical Theatre Experience Where Everyone Is Welcome to Be Themselves!

Ferndale Repertory Theatre is excited to offer a special FREE sensory-sensitive performance of Disney’s Frozen, thoughtfully adapted to create a more comfortable, flexible, and welcoming theatre experience for individuals with disabilities, sensory sensitivities, and their families.

Thanks to generous funding from RISE, all 184 seats for this performance are available at no cost!

What Is a Sensory-Sensitive Performance?

A sensory-sensitive performance is a specially adapted version of a show designed for guests who may find a traditional theatre environment overwhelming or difficult to navigate.

Our goal is to create an environment where guests and families can enjoy live theatre without worrying about typical expectations for audience behavior.

For this special performance, we will offer:

  • Adjusted lighting and sound: Loud or startling sound effects and flashing lights will be reduced or removed, and the house lights will remain on at a comfortable level.

  • A relaxed audience environment: Guests are welcome to move, make noise, stand, or take breaks as needed. There is no expectation to remain completely quiet or still!

  • A sensory-friendly quiet space: A designated room will be available for anyone who needs a break, with sensory tools such as fidgets and noise-reducing headphones.

  • ASL interpretation: American Sign Language interpretation will be provided.

  • A welcoming introduction: Before the performance, cast members will introduce themselves to help familiarize guests with the actors and characters they will see onstage.

  • Flexible entry and exit: Guests may step out of the theatre and return whenever they feel ready.

  • A preparation guide: Every family will receive our Welcome to the Theatre — Here’s What to Expect guide to help them prepare for their visit.

Please note: While this performance will include sensory-friendly adjustments, Frozen is still a live musical featuring singing, instrumental music, theatrical lighting, and moments of excitement. Some sounds and visual effects will remain part of the experience, but we will work to reduce elements that may be especially startling or overwhelming.

Who Is This Performance For?

This performance is especially designed for individuals who would benefit from a more flexible, sensory-friendly theatre environment, including people with autism, developmental or intellectual disabilities, sensory processing differences, and other disabilities or access needs.

Families, caregivers, aides, and support people are welcome and encouraged to attend together!

Guests who require personal assistance or supervision must attend with their own caregiver, aide, or support person. This is not a drop-off or supervised care event.
